tech giant Google LLC (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has cut at least 40 jobs at its Google News division. According to people familiar with the matter, the reason behind the round of layoffs is the uncertainty and sensitive times for online platforms and publishers. The exact number of people who lost jobs at the Google News unit has not been confirmed. As the spokesperson said, there are still hundreds of employees working on the product.
Google representative commented,
“We are deeply committed to a vibrant information ecosystem, and news is a part of that long-term investment. We have made some internal changes to streamline our organization. A small number of employees were affected. We are supporting everyone with the transition period, outplacement services and severance as they look for new opportunities at Google and beyond.”

Other tech giants like Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Meta Platform Inc (NASDAQ: META), and alphabet inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) also made layoffs, leading to downsizing in 2023.

Similarly, Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing chatbot said that “the ceasefire signals an end to the immediate bloodshed”.
