Like Google and Amazon, the firm has recently developed smart speakers and displays for the home. And now, the smartphone will be the latest hardware addition. According to a company spokesperson, the smartphone is expected to be unveiled within the next week.

At the moment, it is unclear what could be Baidu’s ultimate objectives with introducing the smartphone. However, due to a few reasons, it may be safe to say that the internet giant will not be going into business.
Sean Yang, managing director at Blue Lotus Capital Advisors, shares a similar opinion that Baidu may be soft-pedaling on its new smartphone interest. Acknowledging that the smartphone market is very mature, Yang says:
“It’s hard to make an impact from just a software angle.”
For all intents and purposes, the mobile phone market is completely congested and hardly anyone is doing well at the moment. For example, the smartphone market posted double-digit losses in 2022, with only Apple and Samsung sharing the year’s spoils among themselves. Whereas, other companies in the same year struggled to find various means to at least cover costs from partnership deals and software acquisitions.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding its upcoming business venture, Baidu remains committed to innovative technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).
Recall that the firm was one of the first Chinese companies to provide an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
