Meta Connect conference attendees can expect details of the company’s investment in the metaverse at the two-day event.
CEO of Meta Platform Inc (NASDAQ: META) is expected to provide information about the company’s investment in the long-awaited Meta Metaverse development at the Meta Connect conference today and tomorrow.
Meta Connect participants are expected to hear details about Meta’s plans to attract investment in artificial intelligence, powered by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies. Many participants and observers are looking forward to the details that Zuckerberg will announce, especially since Meta has heavily funded its metaverse efforts since the initial announcement. Speaking on the upcoming conference, Carolina Milanesi, President of Creative Strategies, said:
“I expect AI to play a bigger role, but it is not clear what their approach will be and how they will provide a hook to consumers. For businesses, I’m sure it will be all about targeted ads and data.
In May, Meta began The company targeted 6,000 employees in a round of layoffs. At the time, many suggested that Meta was freeing up funds to continue investing in its metaverse. Between November and May, the social media giant had already cut more than 20,000 jobs.
Meta Investing in Quest
As part of Meta Connect’s announcements, many expect some information on apps for the company’s hardware devices, including a new virtual reality Quest headset set to be released this year. There are also expectations for virtual assistants powered by artificial intelligence. Two sources familiar with the matter indicated that the company plans to integrate these assistants with apps.
Meta Connect should announce important details on the Quest. VR/AR device already in competition with Apple’s Vision Pro headset announced In June, the market may be divided based on further meta announcements. Mark Vena, principal analyst and CEO of SmartTech Research, said:
“How does the Meta compete with Apple’s Vision Pro? I want to know how Meta is prioritizing innovation, investing heavily in hardware and software development for its augmented and virtual reality solutions, Oculus and Quest.
The rivalry between the two companies in the reality headset sector will largely depend on their execution. In June, Meta revealed Quest 3 will support AR and VR technology. Starting at $499, the new device is Meta’s first attempt at full mixed-reality features. Interestingly, the Quest 3 is expected to be smaller than the Quest 2.
Recently, Meta has expanded the reach of its Horizon Worlds 3D social platform to web and mobile platforms. The game will now be available to users outside the Metaverse for the first time since its 2021 launch. According to a company publication,Meta believes that everyone should have access to the metaverse, regardless of their device. The company believes that although the Quest headset is the best point of access, there should be others.
Meta said early access is limited to a select few Android users, with an iOS version planned a little later. The publication also states that web browsers can enjoy speedy access.
