CEO Durov spent $200,000 to purchase Toncoin in order to pre-obtain Telegram Premium subscriptions for 10,000 Telegram users.
pavel durovThe CEO of the cross-platform instant messaging service has announced a giveaway of 10,000 premium subscriptions to celebrate a new feature in the app. The Telegram app officially introduced some new features, including “Gifts in Channels”, which allows channel owners to host gifts for loyal followers.
Durov wrote that every channel on Telegram can now host “fair giveaways.” He explained that the problem with past giveaways on social media is that many of them are scams. The CEO explained that in most cases, it is impossible to confirm that the winner was chosen fairly. Telegram’s new feature makes the app the first social media platform to “natively support gifts with guaranteed random selection.” The gift facility also includes prepaid prize money.
In celebration of the new features, Durov announced a free Telegram Premium subscription paid with Toncoin. He wrote,
“To celebrate our new feature, I’m hosting a giveaway of 10,000 Telegram Premium memberships. In a week, 10,000 random subscribers of my channel will receive Telegram Premium subscription for 6 months. I have already prepaid for this gift on Fragment with $200,000 worth of Toncoin purchased on the crypto exchange.”
The new feature allows users to enter giveaways and receive prizes, rest assured that winners have been selected appropriately. Each winner will receive a gift code to publicly verify their winnings. Apart from accessing Telegram Premium through the code, users may also be able to access other goodies offered by the channel owner. Winners may also be able to transfer their prize to a friend.
Telegram giveaway feature and boost
The benefit for channel owners is that they earn from freebies. These boosts help them access more features, including custom colors and stories, and also increase their overall growth and visibility. Also, channel owners have complete control over the gifts. They can specify the preferred number of winners, the duration of the giveaway, and what is eligible. Owners can also specify other conditions, including whether they want eligibility for all customers, or restrict access to new customers.
For the safety of participants and winners, the channel owner must make advance payment for the premium subscription they wish to award. While this is easily done through the Telegram app, organizers can use @PremiumBot or Fragment, which supports larger gifts for thousands of subscriptions.
Plus, boosts are now much more accessible. Telegram Premium account holders will now get four boosts instead of one. Users are free to share these boosts among their favorite channels as per their choice.
Additionally, gifting someone a premium membership also gives them a boost. Interestingly, the gift giver gets three incentives for giving just one premium. Any user who wins Premium for free will have their four boosts automatically transferred to the channel host. This contributes significantly to the growth of the channel and increases its visibility.
