BlueSky will differ from Twitter in terms of its algorithm preferences where users get the option to subscribe to custom feeds. With Grayscale, Bluesky takes a more decentralized approach.
Bluesky, a Twitter alternative supported by jack dorsey It received its first third-party app from mobile users, named Graysky. As of now, several projects have already been built on Bluesky’s API, and are currently under testing.
However, Graysky became the first to ship on the Apple App Store and is now available for preorder with a launch date of October 21st. Sooner or later, Bluesky is also planning to bring Graysky to the Android platform. The app promises an enhanced BlueSky experience with additional features, including GIF support, seamless translation, a convenient means of viewing all likes, primary focus on the feed, hashtag functionality, and more.
Developed by London-based software engineer Samuel Newman, the inspiration behind creating the Bluesky client was not primarily rooted in the company’s decentralized networking protocol, the AT protocol. This protocol will eventually enable Bluesky to function like Mastodon, allowing users to set up interconnected servers. Instead, as Newman elaborated, Bluesky stood out because it simply offers a better Twitter experience.
Here’s what Gresky has to offer
While Bluesky has introduced the feature for likes on user profiles, Graysky intends to maintain its lead over the official app by offering additional features present in Bluesky. For example, Graysky allows users to see everyone’s likes, just like Twitter/X. It also features GIF sending powered by Tenor, ensures backward compatibility with official apps and supports in-thread translation.
A key difference between Bluesky and Twitter/X is their approach to algorithmic preferences through custom feeds. This means Bluesky users have the option to subscribe to a custom feed. This would allow the company or other developers to curate and filter network posts in a variety of ways, rather than being limited to an algorithmic “for you” timeline.
In Greysky, users begin their experience by accessing the feed of their choice directly from the main tab. If users want to explore additional feeds to follow, the app offers a search interface to browse through feeds created by others.
Additionally, the app includes a search interface that allows users to search other users, posts, and feeds. This is in contrast to Bluesky’s mobile app, which fully supports searching for users and posts. Newman said he sees Gresky as someone who is more open-minded and more like email. He couple,
“It’s really interesting. “As you know, it bypasses a lot of the problems that Twitter is having, you know, in terms of the gentleman in charge and moderation as well.”
Newman also said that the decentralized aspect of Graysky will allow users to “legate troublesome users into obscurity rather than outright banning them.”
Future updates of Graysky app
In upcoming updates, Newman envisions various new features being included in the app. These include drafts, bookmarks, automatically generated alt text, the ability to mute specific words, creating polls, enhanced notification management, providing more home feed customization options, implementing better content filters, tagging posts with language or content warnings. Includes support for enabling and introduction. List functionality.
Initially, the Graysky app will be free to use without in-app purchases. However, Newman plans to charge ~£3.99 per month. This will be for conducting surveys on the platform and other post-analytics services.
